From March 13 to April 11, 2026, Metrograph and The Theater of the Matters present Boris Barnet, A Soviet Poet, a month-long retrospective dedicated to the boxer-turned-filmmaker Boris Barnet. On the occasion of the retrospective, a selection of related texts is published on The Theater of the Matters’ website.

A major retrospective dedicated to Dutch filmmaker and photographer Johan van der Keuken begins at Filmoteca de Catalunya in Barcelona. Running through the end of April, the programme offers a wide survey of his work.

Born in 1930, American documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman passed away on 16 January 2026. He leaves behind a monumental body of work that has deeply marked the history of documentary cinema.

In Brussels, Cinema RITCS will be hosting a Jean Vigo retrospective, starting on 2 March. Ahead of the programme at Cinema RITCS, L’Atalante will also screen at KASKcinema on 24 February, in connection with the launch of Florian Deroo’s new book Barge Life (2024).

Children occupy a central place in Italian cinema, reflecting family life, society, and the challenges of growing up. A new film programme at CINEMATEK explores these themes across four films, each introduced by Claudio Serafini (Istituto Italiano di Cultura Brussels) and Wouter Hessels (RITCS).

In Brussels, Flagey hosts a limited retrospective of films by Kelly Reichardt, running through 19 February, on the occasion of the Belgian theatrical release of her latest film, The Mastermind (2025).

The En ville ! Film Festival returns to Brussels for its 7th edition, taking place in the city’s cinemas from 26 January to 1 February. A vibrant snapshot of contemporary Belgian and international non-fiction cinema, the festival brings together 27 films, including 18 Belgian premieres, to explore territories, imaginaries, and the people who inhabit and shape them.

From 23 to 31 January, Beursschouwburg hosts a free programme devoted to Brussels as lived, worked, and imagined, bringing together short and feature films by Brussels-based filmmakers.
